Very few people truly understand this condition, as evident by the variety of names currently being used in medicine to try and describe
it!
The fact is that our bodies are “plastic”, that is that they change in response to circumstance and daily routines. Over long periods of time it is possible for your body to feel like it has been separated from you… let’s give an example…
…in chronic pain it is possible for the way the brain maps that part of your body to change. The consequence of this is that it can start to feel numb or tingly. In more severe cases the way that part of the body moves starts to change (which causes lots of other problems and spreads the issue). This cycle becomes self perpetuating and eventually can become very disabling. In one recent study the way people understand their body’s had changed so much that when a “clicker” was held over the affected part of their bodies they could not work out where the sound was coming from!...
