Long-term Low Back Pain
With long term problems it is all about looking at the longer term and having a support mechanism.
It commonly happens that people feel pain and so they stop doing as much. If this pattern is repeated the person becomes more and more limited in what they do each day. This then carries it’s own problems, your muscles are very clever and efficient and when they are used less they start to switch off. This means you can do less and you feel worse.
It’s a negative multiplier effect!

The best thing you can do is to start being more active. They key here is to do it incrementally. People sometimes become “Boom - Busters”; this means that they rest for a few days and when they feel a bit better they do lots and lots of activities (e.g. walk around the park, housework, wash the care) but because the body is not used to this level of activity the pain flares up and a few days of rest are forced upon you.
When the pain eases you then need to catch up on all the jobs you’ve been unable to do over the past few days…. and so the cycle continues without any progression in how much you can do…
